Employment Contracts

  • Indefinite Period: The standard form.
  • Fixed Period: Cannot exceed a cumulative period of 10 years.
  • Specific Tasks: Limited to 120 days per year.

Working Conditions

  • Hours: 40 hours per week full-time. Overtime is paid extra (20% to 50% depending on the timing).
  • Leave: 4 weeks of annual paid leave.
  • Maternity Leave: 12 months (6 months paid 70% by employer, 3 months 50% by government, 3 months unpaid).

Termination

Contracts can be terminated by agreement, expiration, or unilaterally. Notice periods for indefinite contracts range from 30 to 60 days depending on tenure. Termination by the employer requires valid grounds (economic, technical, or misconduct) and a formal procedure.

Employment of Foreigners

Foreigners can work in Kosovo by obtaining a Temporary Residence Permit. The permit is usually issued for 1 year and is renewable. The process is non-bureaucratic, with decisions typically made within 30 days. Citizens of over 100 countries can enter Kosovo without a visa.
